Happy Mother's Day everyone. I recently had the pleasure of watching this Great Horned Owl mother shield her three young from heavy winds. The owlets were curious about hikers walking on the trails far below them. And this second owlet, in particular, would get excited and bob her/his head and cry.

This owl family is not from any of the mating pairs I watched a few months earlier. I still hope to spy young from one of those pairs. Prior to seeing these owls, I saw this pretty dragonfly.

And one bonus shot for Mother's Day: a young tule elk with the maternal herd crossing a trail. This elk seemed quite young, with a still-unsteady gate.

Lovely shots, Jen! The owl family is really beautiful all tucked together, and how cute is that baby elk! Great stuff!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Pat. The elk was adorable (too bad I only had my 200mm that day).
